What to Wear on a Cold Night Out: Dates, Clubs, and Casual

Since I was born in the summer, I hate winter time.  It's freezing and rainy, which makes it a tad difficult to come up with cute nighttime outfits when I have places to go.  To save you the trouble of tearing apart your closet, and choosing between being warm or looking good, I've come up with solutions.  Here are some outfits for date nights, clubbing, and casual nights with friends or family.  Of course, if it's minus 20 degrees outside, add a cute coat to these outfits.

Cold Date Night

On the left:
Flutter Sleeve Charmuese Top With Ruffles, $19
AE Women's Boyfriend Blazer, $50
Skinny Jeans - American Eagle Outfitters, $40
Wild Tiger Platform Pumps, $23
ALDO Black Chain Clutch, $30
Forever 21 Antiqued Wide Jeweled Bracelet, $9.80

On the right:
Dolman Sweater Dress, $40
Juicy Couture - Heather Opaque Tight , $31
Dollhouse Pumps, $35
La Regale Beaded Shell Clutch, $38
Forever 21 Long Necklace, $9.80

On a date, you always want to be comfortable and confident in what you wear.  You shouldn't have to sacrifice either just because it's cold outside.  The first look is similar to something I wore on a date: ruffled blouse, blazer, and skinny jeans.  The pumps don't expose your toes to freezing temperatures, and the pattern adds an unexpected pop to the outfit.  Keep your accessories neutral so that they don't overpower the top and shoes.  The next outfit is a comfortable dolman sweater dress with thick tights and ankle booties.  Add a peacoat to keep the look sophisticated.

Going clubbing is always an excuse to do a little more with your outfits.  It's the time to try out prints, patterns, sequins, glitter - pretty much anything that you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing during the day.  On the left, I paired a heathered tee-shirt with liquid leggings and snakeskin heels.  I wasn't a fan of liquid leggings until I tried them out, and I like how they bring edginess to an outfit.  The snakeskin heels liven up the outfit, and the gray blazer adds structure and definitely warmth.  On the right, I took a basic sequin and lace dress and added black tights with patent heels.  Since you might have to stand in line, the tights will provide a shield from the bitter cold.  The rockstar-esque black jewelry feeds off the dress, and the patterned clutch gives the outfit an extra dose of edge.

Cold Casual Night

On the left:
Slub Off the Shoulder Top - Arden B., $29
Dark Skinny Jeans - Hot Topic, $29
O'NEILL Studly Handbag, $44 - Leopard Flats, $16
Pressed Metal Hoop Earrings, $1.50

On the right:
Art Decade Dress, $48
Shearling Suede Jacket, $47
Juicy Couture Opaque Tight, $31
Forever 21 Slouchy Ankle Boot w/ Chains, $32
Two-Tone Twisted Hoop Earrings, $8.90

On a casual night out (i.e. karaoke, movies, roller skating, etc.), opt for comfortable basic pieces with shiny or textured accessories.  The red off-the-shoulder top, skinny jeans, and gold hoops are basics, but when paired with leopard flats and a studded bag, it becomes appropriate for night.  Next, don't be afraid to wear your printed summery dress at night.  Add a shearling suede jacket, which is very in season right now, and slouchy boots for a touch of toughness to a lady-like dress.

Stay warm!
